Classes by Goldie

Goldie took Zumba® and Zumba® Gold Instructor Training in early 2010.  She specializes in Zumba® Gold, which is for the active older adult, the true beginner to dance fitness, and/or people who are not used to exercising.  The classes are just as fun as the regular Zumba® classes, with the same great Latin styles of dance and music.

For Goldie’s classes, wear comfy workout clothes and indoor shoes with a bottom made for pivots and turns.  Bring a bottle of water and a yoga mat or beach towel for final stretch.

Zumba® Philosophy

Are you ready to party yourself into shape?  With Zumba® Fitness, you simply forget the workout, lose yourself in the music, and soon . . . you find yourself in shape.  This is the original dance-fitness party.  As Beto, the creator of Zumba® says “Feel the Music”!  Most of all, just have fun!  If you can’t do a certain step at first, simply move however the music makes you feel.  There really is no wrong way to Zumba.

Zumba® Fitness ~ What is it?

Zumba® is a fitness class that combines dance and fitness moves in an easy-to-follow manner.  The Zumba music is an important component of the class and is 70% Latin inspired dance music, to include Cumbia, Salsa, Merengue, chachacha, and 30 % inspired by other cultures of the world.  Both fast and slow rhythms are used to provide a cardio workout as well as to help tone and sculpt the body; hand weights are sometimes used.
Safety is always number one ~ if you have any low back or knee problems (or any medical problems) keep your moves basic and listen to your own body.  The class always starts with a warm-up and proceeds into interval training (using faster and slower tempos throughout the duration of the class), ending with a cool-down and a stretch.  Zumba is a great cardio and toning workout, and people of all fitness abilities, ages and sizes can join in the fun!

Brief History of Zumba®

Choreographer and dancer, Alberto “Beto” Perez from Columbia created a dance fitness program during the 1990s.  It started from one incident.  Beto realized he had forgotten his music when he was about to teach an aerobics class.  However, he had some of his traditional salsa and merengue music in his backpack, so pulled that out to use instead, improvising the class with this non-traditional aerobics music.  The class participants loved it, and the roots for Zumba® were created.  Beto brought Zumba® to the US in 1999, partnering with local entrepreneurs Alberto Perlman and Alberto Aghion.  Miami became Zumba’s home base, and this dance-based fitness sensation started to spread to the world!  The rest is history!
